Distance Software, a small software company located in Bay View, WI, is
looking for a part-time developer to assist with a variety of software
projects.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has completed the basic and intermediate courses in the computer
science curriculum, or has equivalent experience.
  • Possesses a strong knowledge of software design theory, algorithms,
    and implementation techniques.
  • Has demonstrated ability to produce applications written in one of
Java, C++, C#, or Ruby. Facility with more than one is preferred.
  • Is enthusiastic about acquiring new skills and using cutting edge
technologies to build real world applications and solve customer
    problems.

Special consideration will be given to candidates with coursework or
experience in databases, computer networks, and web application
technologies including DHTML, Javascript, CSS, AJAX, Ruby on Rails, and
PHP.

The position will average 10-15 hours a week, with flexible scheduling
to accommodate coursework. Duties will include a wide variety of
programming and design tasks based on the current workload of the
company. The developer will be given specific instruction on tasks to
complete, but much of the decision-making with regard to implementation
will be left to the developer, with input from a supervisor. They will
be expected to research alternatives and provide reasoned justifications
of their choices. Developers will also be encouraged to seek out new
approaches, tools, and sources of information to increase both their own
knowledge, and to provide the best possible solution to customers.

Salary is competitive, and commensurate with experience. Interested
applicants should send resume, cover letter, brief code sample, and
preferred contact information to j...@distancesoftware.com. Distance Software is an equal opportunity
employer.
